Thanks Paul

No reason for this post other than to thank Mr. PaulNoonan for exposing me to the Fire Joe Morgan blog. It is by far the funniest read on the internet. Any other suggestions?

Brewer trade Doug Davis

News came out a few days ago that the Milwaukee Brewers traded pitcher Doug Davis to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

I have always been a big fan of Davis. He eats up innings and gets strike outs. He struggles with control sometimes and walks people but most strikeout pitchers get their fair share of walks.

After hearing the news I was a bit upset because starting pitching is a difficult commodity for smaller market teams to obtain. When I heard the trade was primarily for Johnny Estrada I began to get a little puzzled as the Brewers obtained a highly regarded major league ready catching prospect J.D. Closser from Colorado only weeks before.

Having been a fan and follower of Estrada when he was with Atlana and Arizona I am happy to see him come, but now feel the Brewers are overflowing in a position only weeks before they were weak, and weak in a position they were strong.

I trust Doug Melvin, but I am still trying to grasp what exactly his business model is. From July of last year until now he has traded away some fairly highly regarded prospects from the Brewers farm system including Nelson Cruz and Dana Eveland. There is also speculation that Tony Gwenn Jr will be the next traded. A trade of which I will probably agree with. Though I realize trading prospects is necessary to obtain major league talent I feel the Brewers may have over paid for Estrada, and Cordero.

My stance on the topic is if the trade market is similar to the bloated free agent market hang on and wait it out. The market will correct itsself.

Hats off to the People of Kansas City

Tonight I watched a baseball game between the Kansas City Royals and the Milwaukee Brewers. Kansas City is widely regarded as the worst team in baseball yet the staduim was still 44 percent full. The Royals were down by five runs in the top of the ninth and fans not only remained in the stadium, but began to chant "Lets' Go Royals!!!" so loudly it could be picked up by the television microphones. Eighteen Thousand fans showed up to watch a game against a young Brewer team who was in similar straights only 3 years ago. Congratulations Kansas City Fans. I applaud your support for Professional Baseball.
